VA Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA)

Administered by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service)

HISA is a VA benefit that may pay toward certain medically necessary improvements and structural alterations to a Veteran's or Servicemember's primary residence — for example access entrances, doorways, railings, and bathroom or kitchen modifications. VA determines eligibility and the medically necessary scope.

Through an existing benefit

Assistance may be accessed through an existing benefit or program authorization rather than a conventional grant application.
