Deciding on home improvements — together, with a record

Few home decisions are made by one person. Should we redo the bathroom now or next year? Which quote is the right one? Can Mom keep living on this stair landing? DwellReady's household roles and decision log let a family look at the same home record, weigh in on the same decision, and keep a durable record of what was decided and why.

It exists because the usual alternatives lose the history. The group chat scrolls away, the phone call leaves no trace, and a year later nobody remembers which quote was chosen — or why the other one was turned down.

How sharing works

  • The person who created the home record is its owner — one owner, always
  • The owner invites household members by email with a private, single-use invitation link
  • Two invite roles: a member can help plan and weigh in; a viewer can see the record but never change it
  • Everyone invited sees the same home record — findings, measurements, projects, and documents
  • Invitations can be revoked at any time, and a member can leave on their own

How a decision is recorded

Anyone in the household (except viewers) can propose a decision about a specific project or contractor quote — with their own reasons in their own words. Each member records their own response in their own session. The owner then finalizes the decision.

  • A proposal snapshots the project or quote exactly as it looked at that moment — later changes never rewrite the decision
  • Each person's response is recorded under their own name, from their own signed-in account
  • Silence is never agreement: members who haven't responded are shown as not having responded
  • The owner's final call — approved or rejected — is recorded with their own reasoning, optional but encouraged
  • Once finalized, a decision is never edited. Changing course means a new, linked decision that supersedes the old one — the history stays intact

What it is not

The decision log is not a chat and not a vote tally — DwellReady never counts heads or declares a winner. It records what each person actually said and what the owner decided, so the family's own process stays theirs. It is also not legal, financial, or medical advice, and sharing never exposes one household member's other homes or personal records.
