What is a DwellReady Project Packet?
A project packet is a one-page summary a homeowner hands a professional: the condition they observed, the related findings from their walkthrough, their photos, the measurements that matter, their notes, and the questions they actually want answered.
It exists because the hardest part of hiring help isn't the hiring — it's the explaining. A contractor can't quote a home they haven't seen, but a good packet gets you a much more useful conversation on the first call, and comparable quotes from every bidder.
What a packet organizes
- The identified condition, in the homeowner's own words
- Related findings from the walkthrough, each with the answer that produced it
- The homeowner's walkthrough photos of the area
- Measurements — doorway widths, threshold heights, rail heights, wall types
- Homeowner notes: access times, context, known history
- The homeowner's questions for the professional

Bathroom grab bar & tub entry
Handyman / accessibility professional
Condition the homeowner observed
No grab bar at the tub entry in the main bathroom, and the tub threshold (8 inches) requires a careful step every use.
Related findings from the walkthrough
- · No grab bar in the tub or shower — your answer: No
- · Tub entry described as a careful step every time — your answer: 'I step over it carefully'
Measurements
- Tub threshold height8 in
- Available wall span at tub entry34 in
- Wall typeTile over drywall — anchoring into studs required
Homeowner notes
Main bathroom. Best time for a visit: weekday mornings. The hallway light stays on at night, so the room is reachable in the dark. No known plumbing issues behind this wall.
Questions for the professional
- · Where would you place the bar at this entry, and how many bars would you recommend for this span?
- · Can grab bars be anchored into the studs behind this tile, and what does that involve?
- · Is there a grab bar style that also works as a towel bar, or is that a bad idea here?
A real packet also includes the homeowner's walkthrough photos. The packet describes conditions and goals — the professional determines scope, materials, methods, permits, and code requirements.
What a packet is not
A packet is not an engineering document, a construction specification, a design, or a scope of work. It does not specify construction methods, materials, or installation details — deliberately. The professional reads the conditions and goals, then determines the scope, materials, permits, code requirements, and installation methods themselves. A good contractor will tell you exactly this.
Packets are also not referrals or endorsements of any trade — they're planning documents you bring to whomever you choose to call.
